The Royal Oak was partly re-built after war damage and is one of the few buildings near the City centre to retain its thatched roof. The original pub was further up Fore Street and moved to the present site in the early 1800's.
The original building we imagine was amongst the extremely narrow streets of Heavitree before 1828.
